PROPOS

ABSTRACT

University integration is a fundamental aspect of our integration. Indeed, becoming a student is a big transition that could be very difficult. It may appear insurmountable for people with difficulties or disabilities.

Students and researchers lead an academic project for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) without intellectual disabilities. One of the study’s goals is to find digital tools that could facilitate their university integration. We decided to focus on this research objective.

People with ASD are characterized by a very high anxiety level, although every feature is different for each of them. At first glance, anxiety seems to be something people can deal with, but it can become really complicated for people with ASD people in new environments.

In order to help them deal with their anxiety, we considered the possibility of including a virtual map of the campus on every university website. We requested MIASHS students to help us to establish a list of important places on the Bordeaux Victoire campus. They shared their experience, told us which places were difficult to find when they arrived at university for the first time and explained us how stressful it was.

Our findings revealed some classrooms were difficult to locate on the campus, as well as very important services for students: university library, university canteen, cafeteria… On the basis of these findings, we continued our research and proposed two solutions to develop campus virtual tour.

To answer the anxiety problem, we can develop a tool similar to Google Map with “Street View”. We can also create a is a “Web documentary”. Nevertheless, this project's continuance will need these various tools to be adapted for the target audience.
